A BNSF Dash 8 sporting a shiny new hood ornament

I guess the conductor wasn’t a fan of the auto industry bailouts. LOL

Story

When are people going to learn that cars do not fair well 1 on 1 against a train. As a school bus driver, they pound it into our heads that busses do not fair well either.

If they had been railfans they would have stopped to watch the train, not try to beat it to the crossing.

Thanks for sharing,

People won’t learn until the above picture happens to them.

Most people think of a train as a form of “unavoidable delay” that keeps them from getting to where they are going.

Some people don’t get that texting is not safe to do whilest driving, yet they still do it.

SOme don’t get that a train is bigger, better faster than they are, some people will still try to out-run trains.

At least it gives us all a laugh when they do!

Well, on the bright side, it looks like they can take this one with them to head office to show them instead of taking photos of it for the insurance adjusters [:D]

Great Picture, thanks for sharing Micheal.

“I was betting that the train would hit the brakes or turn to miss me…”

I want to know HOW it happened. Thats a brand new car, no plates sticker in the window.I am betting there is an interesting story to this. Hitting him on the street level wouldnt get him up on the handrails. So can we say fell off an autorack?

Maybe it’s a still from that new movie. [(-D]

Maybe if you read the story, you’d see the train hit a trailer truck with new cars on it. mh

I think it is called natural selection. The idiots are called home early because the big man above can’t bear to watch any more of their shenanigans. It happens in the animal world as well ya know[:D]

Guys, read the story go to the link I provided. Short story is a semi truck auto carrier was sitting at the crossing when the train hit it.

Does Earl Scheib still offer $10 of free metal work with any paint job? [swg]

Missed the story link first time around. However, why did the truck driver stop on the tracks, historically trucks have not faired to well against train engines either.

At least no one was hurt.

Hope somebody learned something.

I learned that nobody can tell the difference between a dash 9 and dash 8 loco. Other than that, nothing new here. There will always be crossing gate collisions as long as people are behind the wheel.

Wow, thanks for sharing!

I can’t. I always try to figure it out, but never can. To me, all GE widecabs (and even -8 and -9 standard cabs) (Dash 8, Dash 9, AC44CW, GEVO…) all look exactly the same.

I didn’t want to start anything, but I try too look at the brake wheel pos, & the size of the grille by the dynamic. I recently learned this trying to work on both a -8 & a -9 version of a pair of locomotives. I still can’t ident Dash 9-44CW vs. an AC4400, but can spot ES44’s though… Always learning. (hopefully)

So ,when something like this happens. Who pays to fix the damage the the loco? Not that there usually is much damage (maybe bent handrails). Insurance? Reason I ask is because, the railroad’s own shop would probably do the reapir work right?

Chris

Sometimes they have no choice. Some trucks such as autoracks ride low to the ground. If there is a hump in the road or crossing they sometimes bottom out and get stuck. I’ve seen them stuck on the road before.

Nothing to see here folks, move along.(The cop responding to the scene)

HEY you bent my hand rail!! (The engineer said)

I didn’t order this color. (Said the conductor)

That’ll rub out with some compound. (Said the receiving car dealer)

The train wasn’t here when I parked the truck. (truck driver. probably in Spanish)
