An unbelievable derailment. An incredible tragedy…

They just showed that derailment on train crashes yesterday. And they said was caused by a broken rail. But they also said that 3 other trains had gone over that rail and had.No incident but that train did not have the same luck. As the other trains

Good god !!! That was 11 years ago already … it still seems like yesterday… Yes Zardoz. I feel old again !!!

According to the accident report, the lead loco was WC SD-45 #6525.

I’ve always wanted to know about the derailment too. I don’t know much about it, and I’ve been trying to fine information about it my self

All I know is that some tank cars almost exploded, and they had to evacuate the whole town.

The derailment was quite a burden to the citizens of Weyawega. The railroad did all the we could to help make things more pleasant and I recall the many letters from residents praising the railroads efforts in this time of crisis. The city was evacuated for 17 days . 8 Cars of LP were involved in the ensuing fire that threatened to BLEVY. The cars with the exeption of one car were piped to a pit and burned off , the remaining car was burned off using a controlled explosion and the ordeal came to an end. The railroad bought many new houshold appliances and much new equipment for a cheese factory that lay dormant for 17 days in the freezing cold. Any one remember the operation to rescue trapped pets 3 days after the derailment?

When the National Guard taxied people into town in armoured vehicles? Yes. Rather nice of them, I thought. Although, I do not understand why anyone would leave without their pets.

does any one know where i can find a pic of WC 6525 & WC 3003 ( trailing unit of this train) i would like to add it to my train pictures i have.

as of now 3003 is still in service but 6525 has been retired.

I’ve seen unit 3003 in a Wisconsin Central DVD.
