So I’ve been wondering about a few things when it comes to making a custom diesel for a fantasy railroad, and I’ve been at it for quite some time, but I’m wondering if too many custom units are too little or too much, I’ve even made my own Locomotive builder too, the Norwalk Locomotive Works [NLW Reporting marks NLWX] (Subsidiary of American Rail Enterprises Inc. or ARE Inc.) and a few railroads like the Iowa Central Railroad (IACR), Iowa Central Railroad de Mexico (IACM), Iowa Central Railroad Canada (IACC), MidTrans (MTRX), and so on (there’s a lot more trust me), and I usually model them in Roblox for fun and its been on my mind lately and I’m not sure if its a bad thing or a good thing
Here are a few units that I have made corresponding with the NLW:
- NLW MP55AC-T5S
- NLW MP55AC-T5W
- NLW MP55AC-T4S
- NLW MP55AC-T4W
- NLW/GE ES44ACPH
- NLW/GE ET44ACPH
- NLW FGS4-28C
- NLW FGS4-28AC
- NLW/EMD F40PHAC-5XL
- NLW/EMD F59PHAC-2
- NLW/EMD F59PHACi-2
- NLW HD30
- NLW HD35
- NLW HD40AC
- NLW PGS4-28ACH
- NLW PGS4-28CH
- NLW/GE P44AC
- NLW/GE P42AC
- NLW/GE P40AC
- NLW/EMD SD70ACe-B
- NLW/EMD SD70AC-B
- NLW HD90AC
- NLW HD90AC-B
- NLW RSW25AC
- NLW RSW25DC
- NLW ISW25AC
- NLW ISW25DC
- NLW SGS3-21BAC
- NLW SGS4-28BDC
- NLW/EMD SD70ACe-2T4
- NLW/GE ES40AC
HD Series - Heavy Duty Series (Co-Co Wheel Arrangement)
MP Series - Multi-Purpose Series (B-B or Co-Co Wheel Arrangement)
RSW Series - Road Switcher Series (B-B Wheel Arrangement)
ISW Series - Industrial Road Switcher (B-B Wheel Arrangement)
PGS Series - Passenger Genset Series (B-B or Co-Co Wheel Arrangement)
FGS Series - Freight Genset Series (Co-Co Wheel Arrangement)
SGS Series - Switcher Genset Series (B-B Wheel Arrangement)
I’m currently working on more locomotive types and series and rebuilds.
No drawings have been made yet either some should be completed soon hopefully.
If you have a unit for your own fantasy railroad with custom specs, let me know, and I can get drawing using one of Mr.Eby’s Drawings as a Template

Just found my Metra GE ES44ACH-P
it looks goofy, lo,l but I’m not done yet. I still gotta get the Monon F3As done for @richhotrain, then I’ll finish this guy up as either an RTA heritage or just the modified Lightning Paint Scheme seen on the SD70MACHs
Creating fantasy locomotives is right up my alley, although I do it a bit differently.
I create custom liveries for locomotives in Trainz Simulator, and boy is it fun to design and screenshot them.
This is a set of F units that now wear the new UP livery.

Dude those look nice!
Could you by chance do this guy? it’s just the CNW wide nose bolt and the CSX YN2 Yellow Nose mountain combined basically
It’s a GE AC44CWMH
AC - AC Traction
44 - 4,400 HP
C - Co-Co Wheel Arrangement
W - Wide Cab
M - Modernized
H - HEP
it’s just an AC44CW with passenger specs and is used in both freight and passenger service

I like a challenge. I think I could cook something up, might take a bit of time though. Any logos or reporting marks to go with it?
Iowa Central Railroad is the railroad the reporting marks are IACR and the locomotive type (ex. GE AC44CWMH or EMD SD70MACH-2) and the US, MX, and CA flags should be either on the rear or nose of the unit with the numbering in Ubuntu Mono with I’ll have to find the IC logo tho but to describe it for now is a Italicized IC with the C going into the letter I but not completely covered with the text under it Iowa Central Railroad and the AC44s are numbered 1-357 if that helps and don’t forget the Dual Ditchlight hood and nose lights on the front, marker lights on the hood and nose of the unit and a single one by the ditchlights like the CN units and a single set of 4 lights on the rear marker lights on the radiator wings and rear nose and the double ditchlights and single red marker by them the dual ditchlights should be places above and under the platforms and a aux light should also be on the rear and nose under the nose lights making it look like a VIA F40PH-2D with the tri-nose lights
Gabe
Oh boy, that’s a tall order.
In Trainz, you can’t really customize the details of a locomotive, so I would have to choose the closest match to what you described, so some of the lights, etc. may not match exactly. I might be able to do an AC44 or an ES44AC to get close.
Oh ok I figured that I didn’t mean to put so much on you

No worries! I’ll do the best I can, and will post a screenshot of the finished product eventually.
Alright I cant wait!
Also is there a way I could be able to use this too? Just curious
Gabe
Yeah, I play on PC and sometimes Mobile (I recently migrated from iOS so not entirely sure on Android yet)
Gabe
Cool! In that case I can try using an open source loco and upload it to the Trainz Download Station for everyone to use. It will only be available on PC only though because Trainz mobile doesn’t have the DLS. Are you active on the Trainz Forum?
No not usually, I haven’t even made an account yet I just read through the forums when I’m bored or while I’m eating dinner sometimes

Also question is there a way that you can make different variants of the unit? (weathered, burn scars, etc., and some with different horns) I don’t mean to put too much work but I was just wondering because the ES44ACH and AC44CWMH use the following horns:
Nathan Horns:
- Nathan P5
- Nathan P5 (Old Cast)
- Nathan P5 (New Cast)
- Nathan P5 (Fouled)
- Nathan K3LA
- Nathan K3LA (Fouled)
- Nathan K3HL
- Nathan K5LA
- Nathan K5LLA
- Nathan K5LLA (Fouled)
- Nathan K5HL
- Nathan K5HL (Fouled)
- Nathan K5HL (Raised Letter)
Leslie Horns:
The Leslie horns are on any units that are second hand or heritage
you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to its up to you
Gabe
I am not great with weathering, so I probably can’t help you there, but I can work with different horn options. If you want to pick a two or three of your favorite horns I’ll see what I can do.
EDIT: If you want to go onto the Trainz forums, I will post everything there on my ProSkinz thread. Search up “ProSkinz (AFdude06) Content Releases and Support”
And also does this also go to the trainsimcommunity website as well? that’s where I get most DLCs for Trainz from, and I can’t seem to find the Trainz forum either for your stuff.
Gabe
I have never used trainsimcommunity. That’s odd that you can’t find my thread on forums.auran.com.
Oh, that’s the one thanks ill find it when I get home tonight
