A Forum Iconic Thread? -Sunset Route-Two tracking-

As we wind down the year 2010, we are drawing toward the time when the Kalmbach IS department will consolidate ( as they have in the past) some of the long-running Threads into the archives. Necessitating in some cases ,a ‘redo’ or building a Second Section.

My concern is, as headlined above the Thread :Sunset Route Two Tracking : Linked below:

http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/120779.aspx

This thread, for my part, has been a facinating look at the modification of Union Pacific’s plant in California, and points East. It represents a very thorough documentation of the UP’s progress along the former SP’s Sunset Route. Not only is it narrated, but it is visually presented with many photographs. It is a testament to K.P. Harrier’s hard work, interest in, and excelent photography. It is a real bonus to a lot of us "Forumists!'.

I would hope that the Staff at Kalmbach would recognize this effort and it’s value and make an effort to conserve and continue to make it available in its current 81 page and counting version (please leave it unbroken, if possible.

Us forumists need to thank K.P., especially for his time and interest and also tip the hat to the others out there in the region that have assisted in creating such a Magnum Opus.

Maybe, it could be moved to the "Trackside Guide’ area (?) to preserve it. Another thread is Nanaimo 73’s work on the Bridges that cross the Mississippi River. An equally interesting documentary!.

Hear, hear! IMO those two threads KP wrote (Cajon & Sunset) would make one heck of a “special insert” in a Kalmbach mag…but that’s just me.

Thanks K.P., for your dedication and perserverance in documenting these fascinating projects.

I could not agree more! My thanks also goes to K.P.

Eternal Threads

First of all, samfp1943, I’m flattered at your kind words …

Second, as I understand it, threads are kind of eternal. So, posts about the Sunset Route or anything else should be around for as long as Kalmbach has forums.

New signals soon to be activated on the Sunset Route, at the west switch of NORTH ONTARIO, Ontario, Calif.

Depending on your personal settings, threads typically are displayed for three months after the thread’s last post. So, if seven years ago you posted a line that said, “I love the ‘I Hate Skunks & Pacific Railroad,’” that line is in an archived state of limbo in the background.

All one has to do to find it is search for that line in the search feature. Once you found the topic, you can write a new “Reply” to it, such as “I still love the ‘I Hate Skunks & Pacific Railroad,’” and presto, it is shown anew for three more months as an active thread.

I am technically unsure if there is a maximum number of pages and posts or not, but I think not, and your concerns probably aren’t really something to worry about. My personal concern, though, is the evolution of information and further enlightenment making previous statements look odd. Such will actually happen tomorrow on the ‘Sunset’ thread, because authoritative information has come to this poster that will answer allot of curiosities of the topic’s followers. But, I guess that is life. Knowledge is progressive and builds on top of past knowledge, suc
