Seeing the high quality of modeling by such frequent General Discussion contributors as “Doctorwayne” and others, it would be helpful for MR to solicit them for YouTube type short videos of their methods and combine them in an accessible collection, which could be updated as needed. Topics would be open, from decal application to structure lighting to car building, etc. I know I always enjoy such tips and frequently find myself wishing I had more ready access to them as I tackle new projects on my workbench. Often, I search online for helpful ideas from other modelers, and I am sure I miss many that I would benefit from.
I still have the old 7xx helpful hints book which collated items which appeared in the old MR Kinks column, but a modern equivalent with video demonstrations would be nice.
I agree such videos would be useful for the new and intermediate modelers and MR should pay Doctorwayne and the others like they would any contributor since it takes time to make a quality tutorial video.
However.
Everything you mention has already been covered on you tube…
True but you can spend the better part of your day trying to find it all, even one you have watched before (or think you have). Moreover I have seen some brilliant ideas on YouTube which turned out to be less workable once I tried them, and as we all know wonderful things can be done with editing. It would be nice to have a more central repository AND some informed editorial hand seleting which ones are what they claim to be. Something like some of the “quick hit” ideas on MR Video Plus would be perfect.
Dave,Its not all that bad and it never takes me a half a day to find anything I’m searching for…
I have around 30-40 railroad videos stored in my favorites section and as far as bad ideas I seen enough of those in MR and RMC over the years. Like anything else on the Internet pass the salt please!
How many is willing to pay for what they can see for free on You Tube by a simple search that takes from a few seconds to 2-3 minutes?
The general idea is solid and I like it but,the question is how to execute the plan to where You Tube won’t steal your viewers?
