A new idea

After researching various means of bringing up a Walthers code 83 turnout up to the level of Atlas flextrack, I hit upon the following.

Since the difference in height is .015", I found 2 sided carpet tape seems just right. I do not peel the backing off, I just lay the adhesive side to the cork.

Does anybody see any problems down the road with this setup?

Bruce, I never came to a problem like you stated whenI used Walthers and Atlas together. It maybe because I use Woodland Scenics Foam Tack GLue and the glue takes up the space of maybe I am just lucky who knows. I do like your idea I dont see any reason it should make a difference test it out nd let use know how the track works a month from now.

Yes, that will be the test, Bruce. I believe it should work fine for you, but just be sure the ends, if they are not physically joined to each other, are not allowed to migrate over time. I wouldn’t think of using plastic joiners any more [:(!], so maybe this tape will do the trick. Otherwise, a small dab of Goo or some other caulking adhesive just below the foot of each rail end should keep them in line.

Personally, I find cardstock to be quite effective, and cut small shims to place under the rail tips. Ballasting keeps them in place and hidden.
