Pan Am Southern Railroad

Norfolk Southern is joining with Guilford (aka Pan Am Railways) to serve New England in competition with CSX. They will buy the 155 miles of tracks from Albany N.Y. to Ayer, Mass. plus the secondary and branches. Guilford will then operate the line with there Springfield Terminal Railway (I can see big Union problems).

The Patriot Corridor will be known as the Pan Am Southern Railroad, maybe they did not like being called “PC”.

It will be almost the same as the Meridian Speedway arrangement with KCS, except NS will own 100 percent of the ROW. I am sure that NS will upgrade the trackage and the Ayer terminal.
