Since I back dated my layout from the 1990s to the 1970s, I had to start replacing my field side signals, with signal above or to the right of the track.
Here’s my first completed conversion, replacing three high mast signals with a signal bridge. Both the signal bridge and heads are from IHC. I haven’t wired them up yet, though. That’s a day or two project for next week.
The Back:
The Front - Double Main side:
The Front - Single Branch side:
Still in the planning stages are some two arm high masts, to replace the block signals on the double main.
Nice! I believe the IHC signal bridge is based on a Pennsy Lines East prototype. There’s an article on PRR signal bridges in this month’s PRRT&HS Keystone Modeler:
I had to come back for a second look. It looks really great! I also really love the track… Just the right color of rust on the rails and the ballast looks very neat.
On the prototype, the top head governs the main route, and the lower head the diverging route.
My signals work a little differently, though. When wire up, the top head will display the condition of the block ahead, and the bottom one will indicate the position of the turnouts.
Dave,
Amazing what a little paint and nice ballast will do. You’d never know it was Atlas code 100 flex. I used Polly Scale Zinc Chromate Primer rust, and WS Medium Light Gray ballast.
Mike,
Seeing your work, I have ever confidence you can do the signal justice.
