Nothing unusual there…Several museums holds a “A Day Out With Thomas” to raise funds.
Thomas’s nick name is “Thomas the bank engine” since that little blue engine draws a crowd…
Fergie,
There has been a real life Thomas the Tank Engine for quite some time now.
He was built (converted from a similar 0-4-0) in the shops of the Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg PA, and that line is his home base. He is a real steam loco and he travels to various other tourist lines throughout the year.

My grandchildren just love going to Strasburg during Thomas week and riding behind him, getting their photo with him, etc. And I am personally aquanted with the gentleman who cares for Thomas.
We live just an hour from the Strasburg line and go their often, not just for Thomas.

Thomas is coming to our city on August 9-11 and 16-18. They’ll be using coaches belonging to a local short line, and making many less than half an hour trips on these weekends. Not cheap, $30.00 per person. Our 4 year old grandson is going with his uncle and aunt. I’m imagining the loading area will be a zoo with all the kiddies, their parents and grandparents!
I happened to be ib strasburg on a day out with Thomas yes it draws a big crowd

The Thomas there is also a real steamer, but not a converted one to look like Cartoon Thomas, but a real one that is very similar to the class of locomotive used in the actual Rev. Awdrey books and illustrations. It is a bit like the difference between the Bachmann HO Thomas (Cartoon) and the Hornby OO Thomas (real)
That’s pretty neat, they even have a Diesel, too.
