I found a suitable and very good replacement for the wiper on the back of Lionel’s post-war track cleaning car. Tampax “Regular” tampons. They fit perfectly and work like a champ. And plus, there alot cheaper.

Dave,
I bought a couple of replacement “wipers” at Cal-Stewart last year, and I kept thinking that they looked like something else.
I showed them to the lovely wife and she confirmed that they were Tampons…
I always thought they looked like those things that the dentist stuffed in your mouth when filling a tooth. I’ll take your word for the tampons.
Jim Barrett did a piece a while back about the rotating pad, where he used a Scotchbrite pad cut to size.
I also use the scotchbrite pad on my track cleaning car. I put a piece of velcro on the metal plate. Buy the velcro that has a sticky backing on it. Then, I just cut my Scotchbrite pad to fit and it stays on with the velcro.
