Yes sad but true I missed dinner. See I was driving back to Ohio from FT Campbell when I saw a sign for the Kentucky RR Museum. Well Craig, I thought I bet there will be a MRR store there as well as real trains. The sane part of my brain said look it will be closed it is Tureky Day and if you stop off you will be late.
The turn off approached I had a decision to make. 10 miles to the museum a sign said (that is 20 miles out of my way there and back I mused). I must not miss Thanks Giving dinner. I accelerated and was about to pass the sign when all of a sudden I swerved to miss a deer and my car shot off onto the off ramp. OH hell I said. Still no matter I will just carry on straight and get back onto the on ramp. Sadly my car was only on 3/4 tank of gas so I figured I would make a right turn and top off. Well soon I bypasse the first gas station and next thing you know I was 9 miles down the road. Well I will be quick and taka fast peek. Sure enough all was closed at the Kentucky RR Museum. Now a lesser person would only have seen lemons. I had my digital camera and was about to make LEMONADE!
I would have to hurry as dinner was at 4 o’clock. I took photos of a switchers and a steam tender, passenger cars and a large L&N e-unit. I even got up into the cab so I could get a real feel for what my pictures were capturing. Soon I decided I had to leave and the a fact that my camera’s batteries were dead had nothing to do with it.
Walking back to my car I was most impressed. It was 3 pm and that gave me an hour to make it back home. Well I thought I am not going to make dinner now so I may as well stop off in Portsmouth, Ohio and go down to the rail yard.
Cutting a long story short I got home around 7pm. People were not impressed until they heard my story. They simply rolled their eyes and shook their heads. Well I bet they will be excited when they see my photos. Ah nothing like cold turkey and warmed up microwave gravy.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL. I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS!!![:D][
