Yeah, i gotta agree with you James, some members are very helpful.

Alexander

I agree as well James. I went from Neanderthal modeler to socially acceptable modeler in the couple of years I have been interacting with this forum. An incredible amount of info at our disposal 24/7. I live in the FLorida Keys so info is very scarce down here. No clubs, no other MRR that I am aware of south of Miami. There are a couple of folks on this forum that are always ready to give a complement or pump someone back up that is having a rough time. Don’t get me wrong 99% of the members fall into that catagory but there are a few that genuinely make a difference with their compasion. The forum has its problems but you have to expect that any time you get more than two people conversing on a particular topic. So I will throw in a “thanks all” myself.

James,

I think most of us are right there with you, I know I am. The level of modeling excellence displayed on this forum has inspired me beyond words. It’s one thing to see it in a magazine (a fine one too, Kalambach), but here I can actually talk with these masters of the art, ask questions and learn from them. The technical tips are timely and second to none as well. Your list of people, as well as many others on this forum, ranks up among the upper echelon of modeling and serves as an inspiration to all of us “regular” guy’s. A big “THANK YOU” to all of those who are truely “Masters of the Art”.

The improvement of my skill as a result of “climbing on the backs” of the folks on this list who are willing to take the time and effort to not only share their work, but also explain how it is done, has amazed even my self. I get a great deal of pride from walking into the train room. It would not have been possible without this forum and the members named above, and so many more that contibute in so many ways. The scenery guys, the historical experts, the electronics wizards, the artists, the carpenters. There are so many folks that excel in so many areas.

That’s one of the beautiful things about this forum: Everyone can learn from and contribute to the betterment of each other’s skills and knowledge-base. I learn from young and old alike. I bet even Joe Fugate will confess to learning something new from time to time. Right, Joe? [:)]

A thank you goes out from me as well to all here who have contributed to my modeling skills. I hope, even in a small way, I’ve been able to return the favor. Let’s all keep up the good work. [tup]

Tom

Even though its a bit of an addiction for me all those who share and aven critisize save me time and money. I have learned how to do many things here;
make decoders come to life without having to send to the manufacturer for reset.
have better results on most tasks like track work, making locos run better, much better scnenery. THis list can go on and on.

So yes I agree a big THANK YOU is in order.

PS. I realy appreciate the patience and percistence some members show to help solve problems.

Boy you got that right, Tom. Even this old dog can learn a few new tricks now and then! [swg]

To me, the hobby is first and formost about enjoying it together with my fellow modelers. Somehow, just going into the basement with “me and my trains” doesn’t cut it.

That’s one of the reasons I put so much energy into posting things on the internet about what I’ve learned, doing the videos, etc. I get some of my greatest satisfaction in the hobby from my interactions with other modelers.

We might get a little cranky now and then, but all in all, the folks on this forum are a great bunch! Thanks, Kalmbach, for hosting this forum.

I couldn’t agree more. Just a few months ago, I thought a bigger layout meant getting a bigger board. This forum has introduced me to around the wall layouts, peninsulas, Accurail freight, roadbed, DCC, proper grades, scenery, modeling time periods, and so many other things. Tthe advice is virtually always passed out with great patience no matter how many times the question has been asked.

Best of all, it is explained in a way that allows me to believe that I can actually do it.

The general goal is to help everyone to build a successful layout.
Thanks to all.

(as I charge toward my first star[8D])

James, thank-you for your very kind words. I hope you won’t be offended if I tell you that I feel like an imposter in your list. If I have helped you, I will happily take the credit, but the others you name are breathing a rarified air that I am not likely to attain any time soon.

Still, your thoughtful post is very easy on the eyes!! [:I][:)]

Oh, and you will always be welcome to whatever I can do for you. That goes for everyone.

-Crandell

i see i am not alone [:)]

james.

edit: crandell not at all [:)]

A few kind words can go a long way.
A few unkind words can drive someone far away.

James, I am right there with you. A week or so ago I hit the 1000 post mark and gave me time reflect how far I have come with this hobby and how much I am doing now that even year ago I thought would way beyond me. And SO much of it , I have learned here. I have lost count of the times I have mentioned something I picked up here on the forum to guys in my club and they look at me like “How’d you know that?”

Plenty of thanks to go around to the guys that take the time to teach us or pass it on. Or, more importanlty, to the folks that havent forgotten what its like to be a “new guy”.

Glenn, I see you live not far from me, send me an email and we’ll get together sometime.

Brad
