Hello all, I was wandering if anyone has had experience with making a working clock in HO scale for the model railroad. What “ingredients” did you use? How did you make it work? Thank you, /Edmunds
Look in the children’s section of watches.
Some are darn-tootin’ small (I know my 7 yr old has some small watches).
Cut off the bands but keep all the mechanisms in place.
You might want to pop off the plastic / glass.
Then FIT (not glue) it into the clocktower / building face from the backside of the wall. Leave the roof detachable to that you can replace the battery.
I’d advise against the Mickey Mouse model, but maybe you’re modeling ToonTown [oX)]
Now, if you figure out one for N scale, let me know!
Cheers!

The major big-discount behemoths have a variety of round-dialed watches in the ~$10 range that would fill the bill. They are battery powered, and usually run for a couple of years on the original-equipment battery. Unfortunately, they keep real time, not fast-clock or ‘scale’ time, and they keep on running when the layout isn’t.

Edmunds, I recieved just the thing for Christmas this year. I’m planning on building a station with a clock tower. My wife does “Egging” (Egg Decorating) If you haven’t heard of this it is a craft where eggs af all types and sizes are carved, decorated and mounted. The originals were called Fabergé eggs. However, back to topic. Many eggs are decorated with clocks. These are proper clocks and not modified wrist watches. The ones on the link below are in Australia but I’m sure you’ll find them in the States. These clocke are easy to mount as they fit into a tiny brass/silver cup so they can easily be removed to replace the batteries. The backs are also easier to get off than a watch! The smallest on the attached site are 25mm but you may be able to find smaller. The one I have is 20mm or 3/4".

Yea, that’s what I was thinking when I read the title of the thread.
Seems to me, all you need is a mechanism that small enough to fit in the clock tower. The face and hands can be replaced with “scale” stuff. Try looking at something like this…

And yes, if you’re gonna run a fast clock, then you really should try to wire your clock tower into it. If you don’t it will be confusing. If you do, then people will give your extra ‘snaps’ for the extra effort.
good luck.
I was shopping at H&R Trains in Florida a few weeks ago and they had a Brawa working clock. I belive that it was HO scale. If you contact them you may want to mention that it is on the top of the isle with N Scale and HO scale, it was on the metal rack like one of those woodland scenic pepole displays. There is also some lights on that rack as well. I hope this will help.
