about Ho scale items for layout

I was wondering if a 1:64 diesel truck and traylor die cast would work on my Ho scale layout? I am looking for a nascar jimmy johnson Diesel Truck and traylor die cast and only so far found one in a 1:64 scale not 1:87. Will this work on my layout? If anyone knows where I can Find a NASCAR Jimmy Johnson #48 Loews diesel semi with traylor in a 1:87 HO scale die cast for purchse please let me know. thanks, roybrownson(screen name).

It’s your layout, so really it’s up to you to decide whether it looks good or not. It might look a little big, but no one pays attention to those things. - Peter

The 1/64th scale you talk about is “S” scale size, not “HO”.

At Wally’s World, (Walmart), they have 1/87th scale “Fresh Cherries” in small red boxes with various drivers and sponsors of Nascar cars. And I have seen the trucks there as well. Hope this works for you.

Johnboy out…

Here a shot when I first got started, I bought the trucks for the HO slot car set I was running at the time.

Engines all most look they could fit into the trailers.

Just took this one, you be the judge.

Yes, but only in front of the trains, or else it will look weird.

The short answer No it will look toyish. if that makes sense to you. There has to be someone who makes a 1:87 scale hauler

Hey, if it has to be that particular truck/trailer, stick it on your layout. Just isolate it from other vehicles so the scale difference is not so obvious.

Classic Metals Works makes a ton of die cast vehicles but probably not with the specific signage you are looking for.

If you have a scanner, you can scan the image on the trailer and resize it for an HO scale trailer. I do my resizing in Microsoft Word image editor.

I’m not sure that’s the case!

Great answer. It’s your layout so do what you want. Ok, I think I’ll go out and buy a Hot Pink Barbie Mattel Car because I like it. Just because its 10 times too big, who cares its my layout. Better yet, I think I’ll weather my box cars with crayons. I mean, who cares, its my layout and I’m the only one who will ever see it.[:-^]

People who CARE about their layout pay attention to those things.

I collect 1/72 scale AFVs and they look wrong against 1/86 scale models

A 1/64th truck is 36% larger than his 1/87th scale mate - that´s a heckuva difference. It would dwarf anything around it, even your trains. Not recommended!

Put it on your layout next to a sign that says “Monster Truck Rally.”

Really, oversized vehicles on your layout just look wrong. Of course, we always say, “It’s your railroad, so do what you want.” But, since you’ve asked for advice, mine is to only use 1:87 scale cars and trucks on an HO layout.
