Discussion about this site, its organization, how it works, and how we can improve it.
Iād like to see a global setting to read threads in reverse order (most recent post first) with the option to toggle between last post first and āfirst post firstā. Barring that, Iād like a control like whatās provided on RyPN.com, that will jump to āfirst unread postā
The little āsliderā is better than nothing, but a bit of a pain to have to keep tinkering with.
Thanks for the effort on the new site.
I have a topic migration question, or potentially just a character limit ( ?) question.
I noted both the original topic and at least one more lengthy replies (my own) on an old topic seemed to have been truncated in the conversion. Is this an understood limitation of either the migration or a total character limit (which seems sort of unlikely) with this new software?
Hereās the thread I am talking about:
old:
https://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/298044.aspx
new:
Iād link to the specific posts on the old format, but not sure how to do a link to each individual post (never tried it before now on the old system, so was probably never possible. Or I just donāt remember how to do it! )
Here are the links on this new system:
Original question:
How to Sell a Large Collection (need your advice, please)?
One lengthy response that seems to be cut off:
How to Sell a Large Collection (need your advice, please) - #5 by Dave45681?
Fully understand if this is just a quirk of the migration, which could of course be less than automatic.
Please consider this question as more of just a curiosity of how things will work going forward on this platform rather than a serious complaint.
Edited to add: It occurred to me to try to partially āfixā my old post by copying and pasting more of my missing reply into the new. But it looks like the new system does not correlate the usernames, so there is no way for a user to edit a post created on the old system? This is not a big deal, I just wanted to confirm that behavior is as expected with the migration.
Edit part 2: Was able to successfully edit my old post just now to fix the missing section (so my question on character limit seems to not be an issue, the truncated text was probably something caused during the migration of the old Forum data). Not sure if I just missed seeing how to do it the first time, or if something was updated in the system (if so, thanks!).

I second the appeal to place the most recent post first, and/or ability to reverse the order. Certain topics have hundreds or even thousands of posts. Needing to scroll to the bottom of the list to see the most recent isnāt going to cut it. Thank you.
You donāt have to scroll. Click on the latest date/time on either the topic page or on the timeline in the upper right after opening the topic. Once you read a topic, clicking back on the topic takes you to either the last unread post or last post if no new unread.
Most recent first does not lead to a clean flow through replies to a post, and can cause repetition and miscommunication.
I know this is asking a lot, but can you police the ad strip at the top of the page? I really dislike seeing half-naked women modeling handkerchiefs pretending to be clothing. As this forum is, I suppose, designed to be family friendly, ad content might keep some members of the family away.
I realize that ad content is a revenue stream. I donāt object to ads per se (well, I do, but I can live with most of them), but the ads that are essentially soft p*rn really push the limits.
If it canāt be done, so be it, but i am not sure how well these ads affect Firecrownās reputation.
How do I turn off all the pop-up tips? I really donāt need be be led by the nose to use on-line forums, Iām tired of closing all these pop-ups!
