AC4400CW and ES44AC--any difference?

Athearn have released two AC4400CWs in the new BNSF Swoosh scheme. Since these are speculative, I was wondering if there are any noticeable outward differences between the AC4400CW and ES44AC–which HAVE appeared in Heritage 4 colors.

I’m not sure about other differenceas, but the main diff is that the ES44s have a longer radiator section than the AC4400.

i don’t know of much difference between the 4400 and 44ac. but the new BNSF logo is called the powerbar or heritageIII look at my sig pic i don’t know what model it is though.

If you look in that pic in his sig, you can see the big radiator of an ES44AC, with the large grill below the new section.

Besides the radiator, no. No AC4400’s have gotten H3 yet though.

Anothern difference is that on all GEVO engines, between the horn and the radiator, there is a column that sticks up, and the radiator overhangs such as on the AC6000CW.

Notice the area behind the horn.

Hey red – I think your name is too long … sooner or later MR will probably want you to change it. [swg]

GE seems to change their model designation alot(probably marketing…). The AC4400 or AC4400CW is the AC version of the basic 16 cylinder GE locomotive. The ES44AC is the new ‘GEVO’ model. It has a new 12 cylinder engine with a larger ‘split cooling’ radiator section. They are very different if you compare them ‘side by side’.

EMD’s ‘enviromental’ offering is the SD70ACe - and again, this locomotive is externally different than the SD70MAC.

Both builders had to design new locomotives to meet the EPA emmission requirements for new construction locomotives.
