Adams' Electric Railway System 1884 pics model

I receved this old cabinet card from a friends estate…it reads… “Compliments of Wellington Adams as operated at St Louis Exposition 1884” Looks like a garden RR. Click on photos to enlarge.

Need any info on this.

Your photos are very interesting, especially since they precede the installation of the first U. S. trolley line by four years. Thanks for sharing them.

Tomkat,

Cool postcard. I’ve forwarded the link on to a couple of our contributors who are interested in garden-railway history.

I agree it looks a bit like a garden railway but my old eyes could not find any rails.

I do not really think it is a garden railway and i do not really know what it is?

Adams’ Electric Railway System 1884: Still looking for info on this train.

This is really incredible!! Wellington Adams is my 2nd great grandfather. In 1893 he invented and pitched the first high-speed electric railway in the US, a 252-mile Chicago to St. Louis route with a maximum operating speed of 100 mph. Sadly, he lost a legal battle on his original patent that lasted 5 years. Which marked the end of the Adams Electrci Railway System. He was never the same afterwards.
