Watching an old scene from the Adams Family show with the train wreck ( as a kid I loved that scene ) now years later I wonder what the train manufcture was. Looking at the controls it looks like a Lionel ? Does anyone know what train manufacture they used in that skit ?
The trains were Lionel, there is chapter in a book on the history of Lionel trains that discussed the trains and the special layout built for Gomez Adams. Lots of good memories watching that show as a kid, and it was in reruns at that time. Im not quite old enough to remember it first being on the TV. Mike
I wonder how many got interested in trains by that? I ran ito the guy that built the ones for the movie Union Pacific and he told about heavy tin foil boilers they built and other things for one of the crashes.
Brings back memories of my old Lionel 027 trains. In the TV show the track was custom build with extra ties. It must have been hand laid. They painted the powered 3rd rail but if you look close you can see that they left the very top of it unpainted.
Steven Speilburg had a Lionel train set but instead of playing with it the normal way, he would crash it over and over. His dad didn’t like paying for the locos to be repaired so Speilburg started filming them instead so he could watch the crash over and over.
Where did you get that the trains in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where Lionel? The trains where HO, and not O gauge, whether they where Lionel HO, I don’t think anyone can say.
