I recently pulled an MTH PS2 trolley off the shelf (probably been there for over a year) as I want to use it this Sunday for our open house. She fired right up and the battery showed OK. I could not find her on the roster (which suprised me) so I added her to the roster with no problem, I hit the auto mode (love that feature for a trolley, random stop and go with terriffic announcements and clangs/brakes squealing/etc.) and she ran great. When I shut down and then restarted the entire system she still showed up on the roster but will not move, I finally went back and deleted her and then added her and off she went. This morning was the same scenario, no go and then I deleted her and then added her again and she’s been running for 90 minutes so far this morning.
What am I doing wrong? This is the first time I’ve ever encountered this problem, all my other engines are running great with no problems. Thanks in advance for your help.
Jon,
When you say that at the restart the Trolley shows up on the list of active engines, and assuming you select it. Make sure you then hit the “Start” button. IF that isn’t the issue, I would suspect the battery. If the battery is weak or not fully charged the symptoms you describe are classic.
Hope you get it working.
By the way the Wake Weekly is in the box with the Buckeye’s car.
Don – I did hit start after I reloaded it and all was good. It’s now been off for over 2 hours so I’m going down to see if it works, if not I have two BCR’s sitting on the work bench. I’ll let you know.
Don – The BCR’s were the answer, I had to reload the trolley every time after a shut down. Also had to redo a switcher, oh well. At least every thing will work on Sunday, the engineer is another matter though
So now the Wake Weekly Rag is roaming the country with my beloved boxcar. I wonder what else has been traveling around the country with my rare and expensive, “I Love Ohio” boxcar. [banghead]
The symptons sound like a low battery that did not get enough charging time while running. When I pull a locomotive that has not been run for a year or so I will plug in the MTH charger to the loco for an overnight charge. Eliminates that locomotive not found problem as a result of a weak battery.
I have converted all my PS-1 locomotives over to the BCR. They all run great with that installed and never have to worry about scrambling the operating chip. A lot of folks flame the PS-1 locos but once converted to a BCR they become some of the best conventional locomotives that I have.
Bill–I have to agree with you about PS1’s, BCR replacements and you do have a fine conventional loco. Regarding that trolley–I did let it sit with the transformer cranked up to 18, still wouldn’t work. I tried it twice for several hours. I may invest in the charger today, seems like a good idea.
I had a problem with loading an engine into my DCS handheld. Found that the problem was that I had another engine sitting on the same track that I was using when loading the second engine. What I had to do was delete both engines and re-load each engine one at a time, in other words I could have only one engine on the track at a time while loading an engine into the handheld remote. Somehow the handheld reads both engines, or however many are on the same track, even if loading only one engine.
