I have recently repowered a BACHMANN HO F40PH locomotive with a KATO motor, worm bearing & joint set and F40PH trucks. I have modified the original BACHMANN HO F40PH underframe to accept the KATO HO F40PH parts. I have also used the BACHMANN F40PH shell. My BACHMANN HO F40PH runs rough because it does not have enough weight in it. I would like to know what is the best way to add weight to a KATO repowered BACHMANN HO F40PH.
I cast some lead weights to fit inside the body shells of some Athearn U-boats, then affixed them to the underside of the roof using silicone sealant.

At 33 ounces each, and with two can motors, drawbar pull is 8.3 ounces. With a wide-bodied diesel like the F40PH, you should be able to better that easily.

I had an original Bachmann with the front wheel drive, I liked the way the shell looked enough. I also had a Life-Like F40 with the drive that was in the middle but drove the back truck, this model needed no weight as it weighed a ton and could outpull anything else I had. I always liked F40 models though I don’t currently have one in N scale, and whenever I see a real one it strikes me as a giant model for some reason.
