Adhesive Washer thickness on 3656

Hello Folks,

The weekend before last, I attended the TCA show in Lexington, KY and came home with a 3656 cattle car along with 5 of the corrals(the guy sold them all to me for the price marked on one).

Anyway, I just today got around to trying to get one working set-up going, only to discover that across 5 corrals, none of them have the little rubber bumpers that support the platform allow it to vibrate. so the corral itself doesn’t work. I don’t need any other parts at the moment, so I’m trying to cobble something together with parts available locally rather than pay $5 shipping on a $.25 part.

So, if anyone could kindly provide me with the thickness of the so-called adhesive washers, I would be most appreciative so that I can make a trip to the hardware store and attempt to jerry-rig something.

Thanks

Ben,

Go to an office supply store and buy some computer mouse pads that are 3/16" thick as well as a single hole punch. Both the corral and car work best with the washers being 3/16" thick. Use the hole punch to punch out the washers from the mouse pad, then pull off any fabric backing that may be attached to the foam or rubber. Use Elmer’s white glue to secure the washers in place. Be sure to glue the runway in the car to the tops of the washers as well. I have replaced are of the washers in my cars and corrals with this method, and I got great results. BTW, Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish works wonders on the corral platform and car runway.

What about some foam tape ?

Doug,

I tried the foam tape, as well as foam weatherstripping, and I found that they were too spongy to do the job.
