Adirondack Scenic Railroad offering reward in locomotive vandalism case

Locate the NIMBY eco-terrorist trail advocate with a working knowledge of locomotives of early EMD vintage and odds are you will have the culprit or at least the brains behind the culprit. These people are like ALF, PETA, and Greenpeace. To them, all that matters is the final desired outcome. They really don’t care if another person’s property gets destroyed and people get killed along the way to the desired outcome. Welcome to socialism.

If the wiring was cut and then out back, STRONGLY point to sabotage by trail advocates and environmentalist. Way to go and push your cause.

Some people are just stupid! I hope they catch the criminal(s)

Eco-freaks and NIMBYs can do no wrong!

I know blame your friendly neighborhood truck driver, :~}

Bottom line is all of this talk reflects negatively on both sides of this situation. I am a firm believer that people are better than this.

I love the way every right wing wacko seems to think that this is an excuse for them to post a “Let’s arrest all the trail advocates and ${insert group you consider left wing here}s, they did it!”

“Eco-terrorists”? Really? And those blaming environmentalists - do you even know what an environmentalist is? A huge amount of support from rail comes from that movement, flawed or otherwise.

Hey, Gusey, why not blame the unions too? I mean, a union guy was violent once, so it must be something to do with unions. The Adirondack isn’t unionized so therefore, ergo, it must be them, right?

The truth here is that we don’t know who cut the wires. But throwing in every group under the sun you don’t agree with - including people who are likely supporters of the Adirondack’s continued survival - is absurd. Knock it off, and grow up!

I agree with Russell ! TOO MANY people are just plain STUPID !
I mean really, how much brains does a person need to cut a bunch of wires. In these times there are just way too many punks with way too much time on their hands and absolutely no direction in their lives. I’m quite confident being that both of these communities are rather small and remote, that the criminal(s) will be caught and prosecuted soon.

I don’t know about the so called environmentalist, eco-freaks or whatever Goosie calls them but whoever did this must be connected to the rails to trails group who is pissed off that the judgement favored the Adirondack Scenic Railway. That could be the same person who parked a city garbage truck on the tracks in order to hinder operations.

WOODS FULL OF EVIL PEOPLE UP THERE.

The one thing I hate is a sore loser. This sounds like more than one sore loser.

This is sabotage, pure and simple. The fact that the damage was hidden shows intent to cause further damage. I find it highly suspicious that this act took place during a renewed effort by some rail trail advocates and local politicians to take away the ASRR right of way for a recreational trail. I hope, when the perpetrators are caught, they are not only charged with a felony under New York State law, but face federal charges as well.

The article states that wiring in the electrical cabinet was cut and then put back. What exactly happened when crews tried to crank the engine? What was damaged that will cause ~$50k to repair or replace?

For once I agree with Guse. I would add that when the culprits are caught it would be appropriate to do the “whack-a-mole” thing up side the head with a HEAVY rubber mallet. There may be a remote chance that would knock a smidgen of sense into their hard head.

Can one of the nearby Railroads loan them an engine to keep operating?
