AF 714 Hinge Pin replacement

I am refurbishing a 714 log car. To remove the dump bed I trimmed the flared portion of the hinge pin. Here is the question. How could I replicate the hinge pin, or re-press the existing hinge pin to flare to hold it in place, or any other suggestions?

May God bless

Jim

Jim,

How much did you trim off? Could you post a picture of the pin? I am not familar with the 714, and I don’t see any exploded diagrams in the service manual.

The pin is maybe 3/32 and the hole it passes through 1/8. I trimmed just enough of the flare to pass through the hole.

I had a similar situation on the 752 Seaboard Coaler I refurbed. It used a flared pin to hold the trolley truck in the upper housing. I used push on nuts, but they don’t look very nice.

Jim,

If you can’t reuse the original pin, and replacements aren’t available, a roller pin for a 16B, 18B, or 30B transformer might be an option.
