Can anyone suggest a good airbrush compressor to purchase? My old “Lowes pancake compressor” is starting to malfunction. I think I want to buy a dedicated airbrush compressor for my setup this time around. Any information will be helpful.
I recently picked up one from Harbor Freight Tools. It seems to work pretty well and has a built in water trap and PSI gauge. The model number is 93657. Can’t seem to insert a link here…
EDIT: The hose is unusable for airbrush painting, but they also have a decent one at HF for about $9.
I’ll second that. I have a similar compressor from HF that I bought a few years ago, and it works just fine for me. One thing I really like about it is that it’s pretty quiet - about as noisy as a large aquarium air pump (which is basically what it is). I originally bought one of the small “regular” type Campbell Heusfield compressors from Lowe’s that comes with the nail/staple gun. It works OK, but it’s so freakin’ loud, I can just imagine my neighbors getting irritated when I have it running (I live in a townhouse). I just use that thing for the occasional air nailing now, and use my small HF compressor to do all my airbrushing.
I’m using a porter cable pancake compressor but I’ve heard good things about the ones at Michael’s craft stores, plus if you sign up at their website you’ll start getting coupons right away for 40% off any one item!
