Where is a tender?
Monte Holm was much more than a scrap dealer. Read his wonderful biography, for an ex-sheep herder and ex-hobo, describing Monte as a scrap dealer is unjust.
If the Alaska Railroad does get #557 running it will replace Friends of the Tanana Valley RR’s monopoly on the furthest north operating steam railroad by just a few miles, both are in Fairbanks Alaska.
What an ignominious way for a train engine to travel – on a flat car. At least they could have towed the engine behind the locomotives.
Here is my hopes that the Alaskan Railroad gets #557 up and running.
Can’t wait to charter it on a trip from Anchorage to Seward.
I live in Seward, and the 557 will always have a home here, even if I have to build the shops myself!
What a beautiful sight!
I’m wondering about the tender as well. http://www.alaskarails.org/pix/former-loco/557/history/Project_557_Loco_History.pdf
