Amazing mold putty - anyone use it?

I need to make some small one piece molds for some missing leafs springs on a brass locomotive. This products seems awesome. Anyone try it?

Chris

I have been molding and casting resin parts for model railroading for the better part of thirteen years now.

Alumilite is a reputable company and I have no doubt that it will do what it says. However, making tiny parts the way the product described says, will not be as easy as they make it look. You will be able to get close, but not perfect.

You do know that you have to start with a master of the item you want to duplicate, don’t you? And of course, you will not be able to cast molten metal in that mold.

However, for a beginner to try, it seems to be relatively easy and may be worth a try.

Ya, I know. I’ll unsolder the leaf spring and make my copies. If you looked at the website, people have made reproductions of stuff that has very intricate detail. It will also accept temperatures up to 395 degrees.

I used it to make a quick mold for a tunnel portal from a homemade master; worked very well and made about a dozen good copies. The mold is still in good shape. Also used it in reverse to make replacement gripping pads for a “reacher” (think handicapped equipment), and a cover for the top of wheelchair foot rests that chafed my wife’s legs. It has a tendency to tear fairly easily, so use care in demolding. Fairly pricey, but I use 50% coupons from Michaels to ease the pain…Gary

Just wanted to report back as I did find some of this stuff at Michael’s. The results were very good for me and the stuff picked up every detail (even things I thought mignt be too small). Super easy to use and the mold is ready in around 20 minutes. Very good product!
