Amtrak AMD-104 Phase V Pains Scheme

Recently I was at a trainshow in Longview Texas and the Cypress Creek Model Railroad Club had a fine layout on display. One of the passenger trains they where running featured an AMD-104, Phase V Amtrak paint scheme. The guy that owned it was not present to ask but I was assured that paint scheme was commercially available. Can anyone tell me who the manufacurer is ?

Athearn.

I looked through Athearn’s online catalogue and could nor find a Pase V pain job. Just to make sure we are on the same sheet of music. Phase 5 on the AMD is all silver with a blue roof and blue coming down over the nose with the AMTRAK logo on the sides

The Phase V Amtrak paint scheme is actually licensed to Walthers & they have produced about 8 - 10 P42s (AMD-103s) in that paint scheme. The most recent road numbers (10 & 55) came out about 3 - 4 months ago. They are working on another pair to come out this summer. The engine itself is made by Athearn for Walthers.

They run great & the new ones are DCC Ready (9 pin plug & play). The NCE decoders (D13 series) drop in really nice & seem to do the best of all the decoders I’ve used for control & lighting.

Here’s a link to the P42 in the upcoming set - http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/140-99384

When did General Electric start the designation “AMD-104?” The last I heard, the P40’s and P42’s were under the heading of AMD-103.

Maybe they managed to get one to exceed 103 MPH. Hence the 104.

I hesitate to ask what a "Pains"scheme is. I didn’t know GE (or Amtrak for that matter) was into B&D. Or at least D. [:-^]

I thought he didn’t like the paint scheme so it was a “commentary misspelling” as in pain-in-the-butt.
