Amtrak dome to be featured on Missouri River Runner
More people will get to see the beauty of this country in a different way.
Is this a 72 seat full dome like the Santa Fe used on # 19 & 20 “The Chief” ?
If you get a chance to ride it, make sure you take your camera because you won’t be able to get pictures like that from any other type of car. You won’t get a chance to enjoy a view like any other of seeing what the track ahead looks like. I’ve enjoyed scenic curves, going along rivers, and watch oncoming passing trains and railroad trackside signals change while up in the dome. The Superliner Sightseer Lounge cars and Pacific Parlor cars come close, but won’t offer that view of what’s ahead.
Amtrak apparently realizes dome cars are popular with customers. I’d love to see them purchase and rebuild additional domes and put them in regular service - especially in scenic areas.
