AMTRAK PHASES... DATES PLEASE

Would someone be reaaly kind and let me be idle and give me a basic guide to when the livery phases were introduced PLEASE [:)].
I believe some locos ran in “simplified” schemes… did this happen to cars?
Did the earlier phases eventually disappear… if so roughly when?
I have a number of the Concor Suprlines… some have a car number on the outside, most don’t… was this what happened in practice or should they all have car numbers…which raises the question of a decal set.

PLEASE! [:)]

and

THANKYOU! [:D]

Some of Amtrak’s early liveries are still around. These consist of:

Phase I – “Pointless Arrow”
Phase II – large red and blue stripes with small white stripe
Phase III – Equal-width stripes

As to dates for these, I have no idea. You might find what you’re looking for on: http://hebners.net/amtrak/

All of Amtrak’s rolling stock should be numbered. You might have a few “un-numbered” Con-cor cars. Usually, a company will make 1 or 2 cars with different numbers, and a 3rd car without one. That way, you can number it however you want.

All of Walther’s current runs of Superliner cars come without numbers, but include a decal sheet for you to add them. Also, the instruction sheet shows where, what number, and what size for each paint phase.

Just from memory - the Phase 1 paintscheme came in very early in Amtrak’s life, I think 1971-72. I believe Phase 2 was first used on the first F40PH diesels which arrived in 1978. The first Superliners in 1979 had this scheme. Phase 3 was basically Phase 2 but the width of the stripes changed - Phase 2 had big red and blue stripes separated by a narrow white stripe, Phase 3 had all three stripes the same.

I would guess Ph.3 started in the mid-late eighties, maybe Phase 4 in the mid-nineties??

Phase 1 and Phase 2 are both gone, I believe, and Phase 3 is mostly gone (some rolling stock is still Phase 3, and one of the cabbage units got a fresh Phase 3 paint job recently).

I know there have been two phases of Superliner cars, maybe the Amtrak phase 3 scheme came in with the new phase 2 Superliners??

There are still some Phase III passenger cars yet, but nearly all have been repainted into Pase IV. To my knowledge, there are little or no P42s left in Phase IV, they’re all in Phase V. The only amtrak locomotives left in Phase IV are the 8-32HWs.
