Amtrak president vows to hire more veterans

Really? I’m glad, I have applied 34 times and havent heard anything. Yea OK!!

The following will be not necessarily pertinent to this particular story, but it is something I will be posting in a few prominent places this week in hopes of getting the ball rolling toward solving an ongoing problem on this forum.

In the comments below a BNSF story in last week’s Newswire, one of our fellow subscribers, Mr. Larry Gauthier, expressed his growing irritation with certain individuals who regularly use this forum as a political sounding board:

http://trn.trains.com/Railroad%20News/News%20Wire/2014/04/BNSF%20Railway%20fined%20for%20disrupting%20Canadian%20fish%20habitat.aspx?commentPage=2&#comments

I believe he speaks for the majority of us.

Mr. Gauthier made mention of a suggestion to better police the forum - an idea that could actually be quite viable. Perhaps a good starting point would be for each of us to begin contacting the editors every time we see an offending post.

It so happens that I already took something of an initiative along those lines a few weeks ago, naming two specific individuals - a move which seems to have achieved at least partial success. Regular readers may have noticed the recent conspicuous absence of one of the more vociferous ideologues. However, the other fellow whom I brought to the editors’ attention is inexplicably still here, and still spewing his disparaging, racist references to our Native American fellow citizens, along with the usual dose of pretentiously cryptic drivel.

I strongly urge each and every one of you to write to Trains Magazine Newswire, expressing your displeasure with these certain offending individuals. Don’t be afraid to name names, and do, by all means, provide the editors with links to the offending posts.

The individual at Kalmbach, to whom you should direct your complaints is: Diane Laska-Swanke.

Her email is: dswanke@kalmbach.com

Thanks, fellow Newswire subscribers. Together we can solve this pesky situation and maybe get ba

Thousands? There he (Joe Boardman) goes again. Checking the “Ask” website, Amtrak has about 19 to 20 thousand employees. I would think Amtrak would either conduct another purge of employees - this time train operating personnel - or get authorization to over hire - hire more people than are essential for operations - to reach the numbers that Boardman puts out there.

Hear, hear Mr. Keuhn…all you’ve said, plus better proofreading on the initial posts. I have been attempting same for quite a while with only marginal success, and that mostly when specific items are drawn to attention. Perhaps there will be some strength in numbers.

Mr. Kuehn, proofreading indeed! I misspelled your name; sorry. I would like to talk with you but was unable to successfully find what seemed to be a viable number. If you google me, I am easy to find.

It seems to me the fire breathing politcos are the one that slam Amtrak. The one that has seeming disappeared was the worst offender and we all knew that was.

Mr. Kuehn and All:

Trains editors take great pride in working for the largest, most respected railroading magazine in the world. More importantly, we take great care to demonstrate respect for each and every one of our readers and website viewers.

With that in mind, please direct your comments and concerns about Trains NewsWire to editors responsible for its content. Brian Schmidt, bmschmidt@trainsmag.com, handles mostly News and NewsWire stories, while I handle more general website content questions. My email address is ssweeney@trainsmag.com.

Feel free to contact us at any time with your concerns.

Best,

A welcome change from many years ago. When I got out of the Navy the refrain was “veterans need not apply”.

I miss Mr. Guse. Inflammatory at times but always entertaining.
