Amtrak recognized for eTicketing program
Hopefully not at the expense of closing ticket offices entirely
Congratulations! Amtrak can and will do great things if somehow the citizens of this country can get the politicians to get off the road bandwagon and look down from their lofty government provided personal flights to realize that the millions of normal citizens want alternatives to cars and planes!!
Impressive! And just in time to help handle Amtrak’s ever increasing ridership.
I was on a Surfliner train in California recently and the conductor really liked his new eticket device. It can scan credit card and has a smartphone app. I don’t see closng ticket offices entirely, but station agents can now do more of the things to assist passengers with the real part of travel like handling the baggage and assisting the elderly and the handicapped.
I read in my newspaper today (6-19-12) that a bill is making its way through the New Jersey State Assembly that would ban e-ticketing in the state. Would this affect Amtrak and NJ Transit?
New Jersy is one state I havelong had serious questions about its government and the way the state runs things and has its infrastructure built.
Steven Crosmer, the intent of no e-ticketing is because of the recent problems with Ticket Master and getting Springsteen tickets. It was suggested to go e-tickets. I think that Amtrak might be say it interfering with interstate commerce. I could be wrong.
Jim in NJ: Let’s hope there is no eticket ban, I’m sorry to hear somebody had trouble with the system going to The Boss’ concert. We’ll still get our tickets one way or another. I just don’t understand why another stupid law would have to be assed to keep us living in the past by closing the door on the future.
