Amtrak slams CN for obstructing and delaying passenger trains

Sad to see that the fight between Passenger and Freight continues to this day and age.Continue on Amtrak.

A few years ago, CN was tying up Amtrak repeatedly at
Battle Creek Michigan. I wrote the president of CN and
got a long call from 2 managers in the south Chicago
headquarters. Luckily I had taken pictures of Amtrak
waiting east of the BC station. In my limited observations
since, CN seemed to be getting better as to the 2 closely schedule morning trains to Chicago. However, its not
the old Grand Trunk pride as to helping Amtrak.

Of course CN cannot supply an exact date for a timely response; they will be running it as an extra until the STB issues a timetable.

DIFFICULT TO PROVE IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT == ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PROVE WOULD BE A BETTER LINE.
TRAIN DISPATCHERS DO THEIR LEVEL BEST TO EXPEDITE PASSENGER TRAINS - AND IF ONE IS DELAYED THEY MUST HAVE A PRETTY GOOD REASON OTHERWISE THE “CHIEF” WILL HAVE YOU IN HIS OFFICE PRETTY QUICK.

Freight rail has become a bureaucratic morrass of yes-men who don’t because they only care about covering their hiney and not about moving freight in a timely fasion. The system of paying bonuses to managers who keep costs down only rewards liars who falsify times and numbers with a little pencil-whipping and sends false data to the blind and deaf HQ. Where oh where is the new Alfred Perlman? J W Barriger would roll over in his grave.

Perhaps the CN can “spin” their reasoning for the frequency of trains and the delays they were not supposed to be causing on the former E.J.&E.

What’s new? I have to deal with CN here in Canada. My two recent experiences are as follow, I took VIA Rail (uses CN tracks on the Montreal- Toronto route) from Ottawa to Toronto. We sat on a siding or what ever for about an hour for some freight to pass. I got to Toronto late. Then I took the Canadian (Probably one of the world’s greatest train rides) with my family. We got to Edmonton late after siting outside of Edmonton for an hour. It was frustrating sitting in my Roomette and Bedroom looking at the Edmonton skyline because our Conductor said he was giving way to a freight. We got to Jasper late and delayed our drive to Banff. BOTTOM LINE, passenger lines pay for travel on freight lines (Amtrack CSX etc.) and should take priority over freight. Freight can wait an hour, but it causes problems for passengers. To be fair, I took the Auto Train from Florida to Washington and it got in early.

Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to tear up those redundant lines…
