I was looking through the USA Rail Guide’s Amtrak station listing and noticed that at some of the stations, the name of the town is placed on the signs while at other locations, signs will say “rail passenger station”. I have a couple sets of Microscale station sign decals, and they have blank signs so I can add my town’s name as well as the “rail passenger station” signs. I was wondering if anybody knew if there was any particular reason for the different signs used or if it’s only done at random stations or what.

The station name would go on the track side because people on the train would want to know where they are.
The railroad station sign would go on the street side, I guess they assume the people in the town know where they are, but can’t tell the train station from the strip malls.
I was looks at some more station pics last night, and the signs facing the tracks did all show the towns’ names. On the street sides though, most had the towns’ names while there were some that had the “rail passenger station” signs.
I’ll have to get my station platforms built and in place to determine where and what signs to use.
