Amtrak Sunset Limited

Hi Gang

I am planning to model Amtrak Sunset Limited which plies LA - New Orleans - LA route. My focus will be around Rosenberg-Houston leg of UP Glidden subdivision.

I would like to know:
a. what is Amtrak Sunset Limited consist configuration for both eastbound and westbound?
b. what locos do Amtrak use for that leg?
c. do they add or remove any coach along that route?

I am modelling modern era in N-scale. Thanks.

The Sunset Limited uses 2 P42 locomotives elephant style, one bagage car a transition dorm 2 sleepers (one onthe headend and one on the rear) and diner, a lounge, 2 coaches and a baggage coach. This consist is used for both the east bound and west bound trains. As far as I know they do not pick up any cars along the route.

Did the #1 stop picking up and the #2 stop dropping off sleepers from/for the Texas Eagle in San Antonio? I know this is irrelevant to what the OP is looking for, but am just curious what is going on with that.

I thought that there was some sort of reconfig at San Antonio as well. I am pretty sure that the Texas Eagle has more cars in the consist on the days it connects with the Sunset and those cars are added to the sunset. Again, I think that is what happens, I do not know it to be fact.

I just got the new walthers sales cataloge in the mail yesterday and they are advertising the new walthers superliners in it and have some consist info in it. I believe the Texas Eagle is one of them listed there.

Sorry about that. They still do interchange cars with the Texas eagle at San Antonio.
