Amtrak to begin switch overhaul at Chicago Union Station

Might be good to clarify a couple of points…is the reference to the “new” post office bldg. really the “old” structure that straddles the expy. south of CUS?..and it is probably not accurate to describe the south end traffic as the majority as compared to the north end. Might be a slim majority at that. Perhaps someone may be able to provide figures.

Just curious but why did they name a control point after me? I mean I appreciate the honor and everything, but I’m really not that important…

The “new” main Post Office is a slightly smaller building just south of Harrison Street that replaced the now vacant Post Office building that straddles Congress Parkway. The south side of CUS probably handles the majority of arrivals and departures: Metra’s BNSF, Heritage (Alton) and Southwest (Wabash) lines operate out of the south side and all of Amtrak’s arrivals and departures except for the Empire Builder and Hiawatha Service are also on the south side.
