Amtrak web site intermitten problems for several days

When selecting reservations page it comes up black with nothing able to activate. As a follow thru look at the Amtrak status page. The arrival and departure times are there but the location bullets are missing for various times.

Both Chrome and Firefox have updated their browsers recently that have added “additional” security features that have made them nearly unusable.

I frequently call Julie to get the status of the Texas Eagle. A day or so ago, instead of Julie, my call went through to a customer service agent. When I asked what happened to Julie, the agent said Amtrak was upgrading its reservation system. She told me that Julie will be back. Upgrading the reservation system may explain the spotty website results.

Unfortunately, as I learned subsequently, Julie has been retired. Now, one needs a smartphone, tablet or computer to get the status of a train. If all they have is a basic phone or landline, they have to call customer service and wait for as long as 30 minutes to get the information.

Not exactly the way to win friends and influence customers.

Most people have had one or more of those devices for at least 20 years or they know someone who does.

Probably be an ai bot with another name to take her place.

Maybe Julie lost her (inter)mittens??
