Amtrak website gets makeover
This could be a great tool if or when it works. Hopefully someone will get it right sooner or later.
Up until now, the website has been fine for booking fairly straightforward trips, even between multiple city stops. But suppose I want to go from Greenfield, MA to St. Paul, MN, and because I’ve never been that route, I’d like to take the Cardinal. It would be great to be able to click on the map to choose the route I’d like to take, even if it isn’t the quickest way there. It would be nice for the site to tell me which days of the week I could get connections, and choices for where to have overnight layovers. As of now, it just tells me I can’t get there from here.
Trains aren’t just about getting from one place to another. They are about traveling.
Maybe a cosmetic overhaul will help, but bucks directed toward serving the potential passengers might see a better return.
Trying to travel from south Texas to Denver is still virtually impossible. They do show the 3 or 4 day connection via Missouri for some $250, but why do that when Southwest Airlines routinely has much cheaper flights, if you want to hassle with TSA.
There has been bus service between ElPaso and Albuquerque which ties the Sunset and Chief together and then a bus up the front range from Raton into Denver Union Stations. This routing is never shown, possibly because a layover in Albuquerque is required.
There’s no link to “Track a Train” on the site. Perhaps Trains can get Amtrak to restore it.
“Track a Train” is still on the site. You just didn’t find it yet. Just like most everything else at Amtrak, it’s “new and improved”.
I couldn’t find it at first either. After I saw Ted’s comment, I looked again. I still couldn’t find it. I did a CTRL-F to search for “track” and found it in the picture on the left. It is hidden pretty well.
TED KULINNA, your comment might have been useful if you had included a link Since you did not, your comment is not useful
