How many of you guys run Amtrak trains?
So far, looks like only two of us unless they are all in the shop.
No Amtrak in my era (And Amtrak doesn’t run where I model anyways, wrong country)
me
Yes.
The Zephyr.
It’s 1953 and no one’s heard of Amtrak. I would run it if I were modeling a later period since I like passenger trains.
Enjoy

I run AMTRAK![:D][:D]
I do. My latest addition is a P42 locomotive and a set of Amtrak Superliners. I know that a lot of folks in MR seem not to think much of Amtrak, but I think any railfan owes them a huge debt of gratitude. If it weren’t for Amtrak, passenger service in this country would have been totally abandoned 25 years ago.
I run Amtrak, Kato E7/8 with smooth side passenger cars then and now P42’s with the Superliners.
I have a North Coast Hiawatha from the Heritage era. A pair of SDP40F’s on the point.
Amtrak was very fun to research. Modeling Amtrak is very operational in nature. The attitude toward Amtrak in the era you model has an effect on dispatching and adherance to the timetable. Also, equipment failures were rampant in the early years, forcing cars to be set out and home-road locomotives added to try and keep schedule.
I run a P42. I am hoping to get some superliners in the future.

I am planning a whole fleet of Amtrak Trains.
Here are the trains I am planning on my North-Midwest themed layout.
Empire Bulder (6 Consists)
North Coast Hiawatha (6 Consists)
Morning Zephyr (2 Consists)
Twin Cities Zephyr (2 Consists)
Evening Zephyr (2 Consists)
Midwest Auto Train (4 Consists)
the neighboring TV&C Railroad will also have a fleet of Passenger Trains. But I have not settled on the numper of trains or their names yet.
James.
I’m modeling UP/BNSF in the late 90’s in the vicinity of El Paso to Ft. Worth and recently added an Amtrak to the mix (the Heartland Flier which runs from Okl. City to Dallas). I bought an AMD103 and a mix of Athearn Phase 2 (I know, wrong ones) cars from a LHS going out of business. Got the cars for $8 each. Couldn’t pass it up. It will be a start till I can buy some Superliner cars, although I think they used the regular cars for that run since it’s just a day trip anyway.
Tom
Hey Tom sounds like a
cool project, I also run the Heartland Flyer. But I’m running a F40PH with some Athearn phase1 cars.
Have Fun[:D][:D]
Heartland Flyer
I am probably going to be one with an entire fleet.
I have the ACELA trainset,
2 Genesis AMD103
4 sets of heritage fleets
4 viewliners
2 auto-train racks.
This in addition to my own passenger fleet under my own railname
East Coast Railways. I am very much into Passenger trains.
Nothing wrong with Amtrak models, just wish we could bail out
real railroad like it was in the good days.
I would like to model the Heartland Flyer ( I have ridden it from Oklahoma City to Pauls Valley ). It has a layout size consist, with only 3 superliners and one or two locos. I have yet to buy any Amtrack equipment though.
I use Amtrak also in my CSX-NYSW layout. My Amtrak trains are:
Maple Leaf
Empire Service
Lakeshore limited
I have an Acela set and just got a AMD 103 and 3 coach cars
Amtrak showed up on the scene about 60 years too late for my new layout. I ride Amtrak whenever possible, though.
I’m thinking of building a diorama of my 3 favorite forms of transportation: the Amtrak stop at the Lake Champlain Ferry with me on my full-loaded Cannondale touring bicycle.

If I ever do, I’ll have to bump up my era from the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s. Then I can run cars from various roads with all the colorful paint schemes in one train.
It may happen some day…
