anniversary car

where can I find the Model Railroader anniversary car in HO?

Which anniversary?

It’s made by Athearn. There’s a big post about it on the main forum page. There’s also one here:

There have been, of course, a great many MR Anniversary cars down through the years and they make an interesting collection. It was once very difficult to acquire older examples to fill out the line but with the advent of eBay one can now usually put together a complete collection in just a few months.

As I recall, anniversary cars were issued in 1959 (25th), 1974 (40th), 1984 (50th), and then a lesser intervals up to the latest (70th). Likewise, anniversary cars used to be single examples but in recent years have included multiple examples and, last year, two locomotives! Wonder what’s instore for the grand 75th?

CNJ831

One year that CNJ831 faled to mention was the 60th or 65th anniversary, Athearn did a 86’ boxcar and a passenger car(at least I think).

Go to e-bay, search for Model Railroader, and add it to your favorite searches. Anytime the car shows up on there, it will be e-mailed to you. That’s what I did for a while, until I won the Model Railroader contest for a model of the car. One pops up every few months.

I still see a few of the 65th Anniversary cars at my LHS. There is a passenger car on Ebay right now.

I guess I should have said the 70th car.
