Annoying pop up

hit AltF4 but I have a good firewall with a pop up blocker that works like a charm

I got the orange bar yesterday, but not the ad that was supposed to go with it. I clicked close, and haven’t seen it since. This machine is running Firefox 3.5.3 with no add-ons (they won’t allow them…it’s a work machine).

Guess I haven’t seen it so can’t comment. But I do get the menu that will pop up and float around when I come back to the top to change from the general discussion thread to the DCC website and have to work my way back.

So big deal.

Why are the majority of the responses centered on something that the subscriber must do to stop an annoyance? It turns into some sort of techno-brag in the form of “Well, I use the 'Kruncher Series 5 which was just upgraded, you know, but then I guess you don’t have that…” The PROBLEM is that this website staff have decided to put in a pop-up atop key content that is (to put it mildly) irritating. We can acknowledge the ads across the top and down the side, why would one think that we would want to have the key content of the threads obscured?

It’s sort of like all those multiple ad cards in the magazine wasting paper and inviting me to subscribe when I already subscribe, but I guess that is a different issue.

A provider could demonstrate respect for subscribers by removing the pop-up.

[:D] First time for everything (at least for me [8D] ) !

I"m running Firefox 3.5.3, and Adblock Plus 1.1.1. I completely forget that there are ads on this site, because I never see 'em. I had to disable Adblock to see the popup, and it is annoying.

Hi guys,

The overlay you saw is an advertisement to subscribe to Model Railroader or renew your subscription. It is designed to show up roughly once per day at the start of a forum session and clicking on the “x” in the upper right, of course, makes it go away in an instant.

A significant number of forum participants do not subscribe to Model Railroader and bookmark the forum page rather than the Model Railroader home page. We are taking the opportunity to invite those who are not subscribers and do not visit our home page to see what they are missing.

Thanks,
