The question is: How do you convert a DCC Equipped locomotive to DC?

The situation is: Looking for 1950’s era Southern locomotive and ran into Genesis F3 A/B slightly used and equipped with Digitrax DH121 at small town train show. Borrowed $10 from the wife to make cash purchase, leaving me with only $.39 in my pocket. Set the units, separately, on tracks. They won’t run on my DC layout, and, of course, I don’t have a programming track for DCC. Internet sources and owner’s guide suggest there was a circuit board at one time; if so, it’s not there. I wonder if it did anything more than make connections simple. . . .

The easiest thing to do is get or buy a 9 pin dummy plug, basically is shorts the required leads together to get track power directly to the motor and lights. The DH121 will unplug from the wires and the dummply plug will go in its place. Digitrax sells 10 packs of them, but ask around, most of us runnign DCC have a bucket full of them from lcoso that have been converted.

Cut the decoder harness at the 9 pin plug (to maximize the amount of wire you have to play with).

Short the Red/Orange/White/Yellow wires

Short the Black/Grey/Blue wires.

Done.
