Another question about turntables

My layout uses 1/2 inch plywood and 1/2 homasote. I then use cork roadbed for the mainline and passing sidings. I am just starting with the railyard and am thinking about using the sheets of cork for the classification tracks. My questions is whether or not this will cause a height problem with the turntable, the servicing tracks and the tracks to the roundhouse. Help please.

Two thoughts.

Some folks have their yards and sidings at a lower level than the mainline. Could bring it down so your turntable ring sat right on the plywood.

If you shim the turntable ring the same as the track, all should be level.

I think either would work.

Good luck,

My lead to the turntable has 60 scale feet of a 1% grade up to the bridge so that nothing can roll onto the bridge by mistake. So, I placed a single layer of shims under the lip of the TT to achieve that height disparity with the rest of the very flat yard.

Michael’s, the arts and crafts stores, sells sheets of cork that are exactly the same height at the common cork roadbed. I just glued down a sheet and cut a hole for the turntable to fit though the cork. Brought it to the same height as my track. - Nevin

I have a simiar arrangement and I have shimmed my turntable to match the height of the classification tracks.
