Another tool for those who need it... Open Source CAD

I went looking for a program that would allow me to do 3D drawings of some buildings I want to scratchbuild… This is open source CAD… FREE.

If anyone knows of a better solution I’m all ears… or Eyes as it were…

I’ll give this a look… last time I needed CAD I bought a nice program, of course that program is on a 5 1/4" floppy disk for a computer that no longer exists…

I’m a certified AutoCAD, Solid Works (3D assembly program) Inventor, and Pro E, and the best and easiest 3d tool I have found for modeling is my eye. Any Cad program worth it’s salt is A: Very expensive and take up tons of memory and require expensive video cards. Get yourself soem foam core board or cardboard and make yourself some cheap easy 3d models. Trust me the actual visual model you can hold in your hand and see on your layout is far better then looking at some spinning model on a computer screen.

Its not autocad but i use a program called trains to build my layouts and then run them. It was featured in one of the railroading magazines, and hey for us arm chair jockies it isn’t to bad. The one thing i like about it is you can set your romm size (layout) and build it. Then add trains and run it, if it looks good there ya go, if not just try again.
