Any makers of HO Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 Hudson???

Hello all,

I’m having a difficult time, nay, impossible, finding any companies producing an HO scale Hudson, royal or not, for Canadian Pacific. This is the one MUST HAVE loco for my layout. I have found an IHC model on ebay and will temporily resort to that, but the details leave something to be desired, and the company doesn’t even make them anymore, so ebay is the only option there.

To be even more specific, as I’m just re-entering the hobby with all its start-up expenses, and since paying the mortgage and groceries remains a high priority, I’d prefer to not have to go the brass route, but even knowing those makers might be a start.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Brian.

Only old brass ones are available. Hard to find and dodgy in quality. Nothing modern has been offered.

Which one are you looking for? H1d or e?

David B

Hmph, so I thought. I saw all the old postings, but was hoping something had changed. Really, H1b and later would suffice. Royal is the end all, but even the H1b is a start.

IHC did a generic CP Hudson a couple of years ago. It sold out real fast. They come up on Ebay from time to time.

Doesnt count. It is no way resembles the actual loco…nothing about it does.

David B

Thanks all. I’m coming to the realization that nothing has changed about the availability of this loco. I see divisionpoint.com has the h1b and c as a new brass project for 2010, so I may have to wait and save for that.

Welcome to the world of “Canadian” model railroading, I just saw a hudson a while back for $1375.00. You are not alone looking for Canadian types, Big country, no people.

Maybe Sunset Models will make one. I ordered the Selkirk when they announced it last April, but I will probably be cinders and ashes before it arrives. (Production delays don’t ya know) Anyway keep us posted on your hunt as I would not mind getting one myself.

Brent

Sunset cancelled the Selkirk production.

That is what I concluded from a message sent to me by someone at Sunset. I then asked for my deposit left with Uncle Dave’s Brass (John Gurdack). He responded that Sunset still has this engine on their list of projects to complete in the next 12-18 months, but offered to return my deposit anyway. I decided to leave it with him until next fall. If there is no movement by next fall, I’ll look for something else.

Maybe this is something Rapido Trains can do? Or Trueline Trains, since they have already done a CN steam locomotive. Problem is you are probably looking at plastic with brass pricing, due to the small volume.

BLI did a very limited run of a Hudson in CP colours. I see the odd one usually on consignment at some of the larger model railroad shops. This model is their old Hudson with CP colours only. A disappointment to say the least. Still because of the rarity fetches a high price when available.

Your hunt for an accurite Canadian Pacific “Royal Hudson” is going to be intense. The only model I know of was made by Tenshodo and sold by Pacific Fast Mail about thirty five years ago. The model was excellent and was factory painted. I have no idea what the original price was but $280 seems to come to mind.

Good Luck

This is the response I received from Sunset when I inquired as to the delay in production. I’m keeping my fingers crossed as it has always been my favorite Steam locomotive.[%-)]

(Our builder is scheduling this project after other projects. Delays in those projects cause delays in starting the Selkirk. Sorry, I don’t have a definite answer as to when, except that it will probably be in mid 2009 now.
