The reason I ask is that I just ordered two kits from them via Walthers, #7042, Nordco Rail Lifter and #7037, Kershaw Brush Cribber. Wanted to try a small kit from them before ordering anything larger, like the one in the recent article in MR.
In both of the kits, parts were missing. Bushings in one, wheels in another. Now, I know that sometimes mistakes happen, but this seems to me like there is no quality control at all. And of course they do not have a web page or a 1-800 number.
Just wondering if this is their standard of business, or I just got lucky. Will have to write them, wait 2 weeks for parts, then decide if I want to spend any more of my hard earned $$ on this company.
I have always had good products and service from them in the past.
Bob Rzasa of Custom Finishings had passed away a few years ago. I don’t know all the details, but the company was kept running. Just contact them and I believe they will help you out.
I have several of their kits, and have had similar problems a few times. I met former owner Rzasa several times on his visits to our part of the country, so I just sent him a letter and he replied with the missing parts. A kit purchased since his passing also had critical parts missing, the small track wheels on a jet snowblower. I contacted my out of town dealer who checked his supply, and the other kits he had in stock were also missing the wheels. He obtained replacements for me a while later. So the problem doesn’t seem to be that the originator has passed along, because there were problems in the past.
Have you tried sending a snail mail letter to their address? Might be faster than trying to go through Walthers.
I know this entry is well after your question was submitted, I live in Canada and I have had no luck with contacting or getting any responses from Custom Finishes. My son gave me 5 of there kits for Xmas two years ago, I went through each kit check the list and found numerous parts missing in each of the kits, or poor castings. I photo copied each instruction sheet as they requested circling each piece missing and taping each poor casting to the instruction. I Wrote a very polite letter went to the post office mailed the package snail mail. I Waited 6 months and wrote another letter, still nothing, I am just finishing one of those kits off now but I have had to fabricate most of the missing parts from plastic. Love their kits hate their service or lack of. I am very reluctant to buy any of their items any more. Hope this helps
