Anyone else have trouble with the Bachmann 3-truck climax?

Bought mine about two years ago. After sitting for the past six months, I find it’s binding in the truck under the tender, acting as if some piece of crud got stuck in the gears. If some crud did get in there, it’s long gone; the binding is still happening and it looks as if one of the bevel gears has a chipped tooth.

So, not much mystery there: replace the bevel gears. The question I have is whether anyone has used the NWSL regearing kit (2802-6) for the 2-truck climax on this beastie. It’ll take two sets at $40 each to do a complete refit, so $80 to get this thing going.

Worth it? Opinions?

Bachmann has a lifetime warranty. It’s outside the 1 year (free) period, but call them and they’ll make arrangements to get your climax fixed. I don’t recall the fee for HO locomotives, maybe $40ish. That would be my first idea.

I’ve had very good luck with my On30 locomotives being repaired by Bachmann (far too many). Bachmann customer service has been good to me.

Good luck!
