Anyone ever taken the train from Zouerate to Nouadhibou?

For the railfan fanatic: the 22,000-ton ore train from Zouerate to Nouadhibou is “one of the world’s longest, heaviest trains, a 220-car, mile-and-a-half colossus”

The NY Times

If I read that correctly, there are a couple passenger cars on the tail end, but most people ride for free, on top of the iron ore cars?[:O]

I guess they want the authentic railfan experience and the unmatched camera angles, and you can’t beat the price.[:)] That area of Africa is the origin of many who seek to immigrate to Europe.

I found some other stuff.
Pictures of the train.

It appears that it’s hauled by four SDL40-2s. An interesting operating environment, also.
