Anyone have one of these?

Now that’s not only just plain sick, it’s mean and nasty, too!!!

Where can I get one? LOL

Darrell, quiet…for now

I’ve seen them mounted on semis usually underneath or behind the sleeper. This is quite easy since trucks have an ample supply of easily accessible air. I think after awhile the novelty of scaring the #$%# out of somebody on a daily basis would wear off.

I have had a few non-train people ask me how to install a train horn on their cars/trucks.

It is quite simple and a lot of 4x4’s have on board air compressors to air up the tires after serious off-roading. These simple setups have more than enough capacity to run a train horn.

THAT was funny!!![tup]

PS-they are illegal on street vehicles. Damage someones hearing if they’re close enough.

I don’t have one of those b ut I do have am electronic police air horn. Scares the * out of people!

You know at first I thought it was funny… Then I thought “what if someone did that to me?”

I’d beat them over the head with a 2x4 and that would be funny!!!

I must be getting old and anal as my feeling on this goes beyond innocent prank as it’s dangerous and could do harm. Just like a 2x4!

I would think as long as you provided power to an electric motor for the air compressor the installation wouldn’t be too tough.

It’s got to be one of the coolest train accessories to add to a daily driver. I would just want a bell to go along with it.

I might research what the fines might cost before installing it though [:D]

Scaring the dogs is wrong, could very easily cause ear damage.

Otherwise its just 8th grade. I totally agree with the earlier comment, the novelty must wear off quickly.

I once thought about doing something like that with my car. The closest thing was at work. part of my job years ago was to move large rolls of paper around the plant. this old forklift had a buzzer for a horn, and with the noise of the machines at full tilt, could barely be heard. you guessed it, more than once I have had people walk right in front of the forklift, despite repeated training to watch out for forklifts, some people would challege somethin that weighed 12 times as much as they do. as it came to pass I read an article in MR on building a magnetic diesel horn. I tinkered with it and came up with an amplified unit with 2 clips to connect to the horn, so I could take it with me at the end of my shift. needless to say it was loud enough to be heard over most of the shop and got some of the same reactions as in the video. the upshot was that nobody stepped out into another truck with out first looking, cause when management got wind of what I was doing and why they upgraded all of their forklift horns, tho not as loud as mine

I agree that the horn was excessive on the car and many communities have noise ordnances.

the FRA has set decible levels for all horns and railroads have explicit rules as to horn use in populated areas and sometimes have to get speacial waivers when their horns exceed local noise limits.

with todays sound decoder I am sure some young enterprising tinkerer could come up with something for his car sound system. While the horn would be definitly be out, the whine of dynamic brakes, air and even a bell might get some interestin looks

I would call the police if someone did that to me. Even if it doesn’t exceed the noise ordinance, it may be a form of assault when used like that.
