I found some 1:43 diecast vehicles in the toy aisle of my local grocery store (Jewel in Palatine IL) made by a company called MotorMax. Not sure if anyone has heard of them, but they seemed like a decent low price alternative to the $5+ vehicles offered by the train manufacturers. They were mostly modern vehicles - sports cars, mini-van, SUV, etc. The price was $1.99 each. You could probably find them on the internet too.

Hi Don,
I will have to check on MotorMax. Should know tomorrow. The first time I saw New-Ray was at a DairyMart. My wife sent me for milk and I spent $25.00 on $2.00 cars. Oh, by the way, New-Ray makes the cars for K-line and MTH (the $4.99 ones). Some of the MTH cars are ERTL’s. K-line does have a second manufacture for cars also.
The NewRay cars are not perfect to scale. I guess it the cars Near Scale. But for $2.00 what do you want.
You can check www.diecastdirect.com . They have one of the largest selection of diecast cars.

Sure I’ve heard of them!

Went into my local Walgreen’s drug store and bought about $20 worth of them. The ones I found were mostly in silver and red, so I went searching for more at other Walgreen’s and wound up with about four each in several colors. As for being to scale I would have no idea and don’t really care–they look great and were only $1.99 each!
