I’m intrested Rio Grande’s mallets and am wondering if they had any close to a USRA 2-8-8-2 for a possible kitbash. Thanks.
The L107 class 2-8-8-2s look to be USRA based machines. Built in 1923 they were numbered 3500-3509.
The Grande purchased 15 N&W Y2a 2-8-8-2s in 5/45. The Y2a was the basis of the USRA locomotive. Class on the Grande was L109 and number series was 3550-3564.
Data from Locomotives of the Rio Grande by Colorado Railroad Museum.
Thanks.
George Drury in “Guide to N.A. Steam” confirms the class L-107 as USRA copies, built by Richmond 1923, retired between 1947 and 1951.
